One might consider the aid paid to Mubarak and his predecessors as "protection" for maintaining a tense, but relatively quiet peace with Israel. Once the lid is off, certainly old animosities boil over. It was predictable, but nearly unavoidable once Mubarak was gone. However, realignments will occur that will resemble those in the mid last century after the various agrarian and anti-colonial revolutions in the third world. In these cases, Russia and China will attempt to insinuate themselves into the situation to fill the vacuum. China is particularly dangerous.
