I'm of Norwegian/Swedish decent. My grandfather came to Minnesota in 1900, and completed his theology degree, and met and married my Swedish grandmother, who had been brought to North Dakota from Sweden when she was 4. They moved several times, and eventually ended up in Canada. The underlying theme of their lives though, was always to go where the best opportunities were, and where they could enjoy the most success for their efforts.
I think that most of the Scandanavian people that emigrated to the US in the 19th century were actually the 'CREAM OF THE CROP" of their generation. The lazier folk stayed home, and accepted trhe lives they had in the old country.
