Many fluffy feel-good articles and commentary have been written about the Arab Spring being this peaceful push towards democracy. Despite all the violence that has occurred in these countries spanning North Africa and extending across the Middle East, we have been informed that it is all for the betterment of the people. It has been heralded as a move against oppressive dictatorships; one that will bring more freedom to the individuals. Yet, even a casual observer is struck by the hypocrisy of this naivety. From the outset of the first rebellion, we not only saw violence, but total intolerance to any ideal not directly affiliated with militant Islamic factions, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood.
