I saw this happen with other professors as well. The excuse the professors gave was "They'll learn later on in life that cheating is not the way to succeed." Really? Exactly when was the revelation supposed to happen? In the meantime, the other students were harmed because the profs were grading on a curve. If cheaters got high scores, it gave non-cheaters with lower scores lower grades. I decided not to proctor for those professors any more, since the department head didn't care either.
