Although I agree with you that the Unions are a huge hindrance to true educational reform, that they protect incompetent teachers, and public schools are a disaster (I know, I've worked in the system for 20+ years), I must take issue with your claim it is a myth that the reason private schools do better is because they take the "cream of the crop." Private schools may not take only the best students but they have something even more "cream" - Parents who care enough about their children to give them the best education possible. I can take an extremely low student and teach them to read in a year, but NOT without parent support. Parents are a HUGE influence. That's why I wish we had school choice and parents could determine what's best
