I don't have a great opinion of the teachers union either, but fair is fair: the teachers are objecting to having their evaluations based on standardized test scores achieved by their students. In a city school system that's 85% black and hispanic, that's basically giving a blank check to the city to fire them at will, given how these groups have performed historically on such tests. It is essentially asking the impossible. What stands out to me is that the teachers are hypocrites, sending their kids to private schools (though who could blame them, really?) and in various ways supporting the crumbling culture of public schooling.
