So much for responsible journalism. The Volt was conceived way before Obama was president. The billion dollars in R&D has already been spent. The headline could not be more misleading. It would have been foolish for GM to abort the Volt after the Obama bailout -- the only way they were going to get any return on their investment was to build the car. The volt does NOT costs $90k to build - it costs @ $20 - 25k. GM is making a profit on every single one they sell. NO ONE tries to include all of the capital expenses to bring a product to market and allocate the same to sales to date. Reuters is practicing unethical journalism for saying the same -- which isn't surprising since they recently entered a partnership with Saudi Arabia.
