In the late 60's and early 70's, Blacks began to learn their history in greater detail. Contributors to the growth in the world and, though there was slavery in the US, great contributors as slaves and 'free men'. Somewhere in the late 80s and 90s, the emphasis was put back on the 'slavery' elements of Black History in the United States; doubled down....and it's the Republicans fault. As long as this narrative is allowed to advance, Black Americans will always see themselves as 'victims' and Demorats as their 'saviors'. Just a thought.........
