I am not opposed to natural gas, but the direct competitor for that is Nuclear Power. NP is bound up by regulations that artificially raise the cost of construction. Even so, NP generates electricity at 1.8 cents / kw hour - total cost for all. NP can be used a process heat to turn Coal into "Natural Gas" with out having to pump it around. Building pipelines is expensive.
