I think it's time to restore "shame" to the American conscience. I am sick to death of adding third and fourth and fifth children to the welfare cases I handle. Maybe if young women were embarrassed about getting pregnant yet again, they'd refrain from having children without a father to help in their support. How many of us decided how many children they could afford to raise properly and stuck to that number???? Hands, anyone? I was as fertile as anyone, used protection that's not even considered the best, and only had children when my husband and I were ready for them. We've heard endlessly from the "end shame in sex" crowd for decades now, and is it solving our problems? That's a big fat no.
