The bias, as you call it, is so prevalent that it's taken as the sensible default obvious position; thus anyone holding a countervailing view is by definition the one that is "biased". It's like the political cartoon that ran a while back depicting a fish saying, "Water?!??! What is this 'water' to which you refer?!?!?" One's underlying, axiomatic assumptions about How Things Are color the appearance of everything; thus, to either side of the situation, the other side looks like a bunch of lockstep automotons spouting the party line and refusing to engage in even a cursory examination of objective reality.
