Exactly, lmarklin. My wife has been an elementary school teacher for 25 years. 4 years ago, she quit the Union and when they have contacted her about rejoining, she tells them that they only exist for the mediocre to poor performing teachers. Their comment is that she is enjoying the fruits of their collective bargaining power so she should "pay back" something. To which she replies, if it weren't for the Union and collective bargaining, she would be making much much more because schools would be willing to pay more for the very good teachers. That ends the discussion every time.
