Why is it so hard for some to understand that although the majority of the Founders were indeed devout Christians and the govt. they founded was done so on the idea that our rights come from God, rather than man. Despite their preference for one religion over another, they knew the dangers of codifying one religion over another (after all, they experienced the horrible effects of that in England), and declared the citizens will have religious freedom, while having govt. not only not dictate a particular religion, but enforce their right to openly believe as they choose? The Founders in no way prevented religion from being incorporated in govt. Congress used to print Bibles with taxpayer money and distribute them to schools.
