If liberals did read it, though, they might take Lewis' comments on socialism out of context and try to use them to attack Christian conservatism. Lewis softly advocated a kind of socialism, which he called conservative on social issues and liberal on economics. Of course, he lived at a time before European social welfare started bankrupting European nations, plus he qualified the chapter by saying he wasn't an economist and Christian economists were the best to speak on the subject. Great theologian, unknowledgable economist.
