The history of Harlem was the wonder of mutual respect. I grew up there and never knew the hate of blacks and whites they were my neighbors. Harlem was an experience we do not get today. It was jazz in the streets and different foods on the corners. I sat on Lucille Armstrongs front steps and listened to louie armstrong play upstairs. I watched MLK give speeches right there in my Harlem. I went to Italian fiests and all were welcome. I went to church twice on Sunday once in the Catholic church and once in a lil black church where we all sang. No one asked why is this lil white girl in our Harlem. Even at 12 when my parents made me move I went back. I shopped in Harlem raising my two daughters even though I lived in LI Thanks Sowell
