That would be JOHN Connally, not Tom. The 26-point shift that occurred over just 2 months in the Cruz-Dewhurst campaign was truly unprecedented in the annals of Texas politics. The grassroots efforts in this race were amazing; but ironically, Ted would have surely lost were it not for the actions of an ideological enemy. When the DOJ challenged our redistricting maps in court, it delayed the primary election (normally held in March) until 5/29, and the runoff until 7/31. Those delays gave voters the chance to compare and contrast the candidates. I have NO doubt whatsoever that David Dewhurst, with his overwhelming name recognition and finances would have easily won a March primary without a runoff; so, thank you Eric Holder!!
