He did get away with it, and you were right if you contributed to the republican campaign you were cut off from new cars, he didn't care at all what happened to those thousands of dealers or their thousands of employees, and suddenly there were only half as many customers for GM automobiles as there were, because GM like all auto makers only sell cars to dealers, the dealers sell to the public, so to cut down on the number of dealers required the government and GM decided to get rid of Pontiac and Hummer, but they did keep Buick, because Buick was a low volume seller, The Saturn union made an offer to GM, they wanted to be an employee owned company, But GM was afraid that they would become too sucessful, they didn't want the competion.
