First, semi-automatic is defined by how fast one can pull a trigger. Ergo, most weapons available for purchase are semi-automatic, even revolvers. Second, any object can be an assault weapon; A baseball bat wielded with a certain intent becomes an assault weapon. Don't have a battle axe at your disposal for the gang fight you're attending this weekend? No problem, just bring your trusty hammer - now you have an assault weapon. So when talking about weapons, it might help if everyone actually understands the context of that word. What do you call the butcher knife wielded to fend off the home intruder?
