The contradiction in all evil is that it arises from the desire to eliminate evil.--James Carse, "Finite and Infinite Games" Can we then say the same of hatred? The desire to eliminate racism has led us to Jesse Jackson, Jeremiah Wright, and Louis Farrakhan. The desire to eliminate sexism has given us "like a fish needs a bicycle." And the desire to eliminate hatred of homosexuals has now led us to the present brouhaha. So...does Carse's formula work for this, too? Does hatred ultimately arise from the desire to eliminate hatred?
