How about just charging people the actual costs of operating the system? Here in MN the brillant people at Met Council have dropped the fares for the North Star rail because the ridership is nowhere near what they projected. Now a person can ride for something like $7 when the real cost is over $30 and the train is millions in debt. The state also takes a portion of our vehicle registration taxes and uses them for mass transit projects and operations because they don't have enough revenue to operate on their own. The State is currently build 11 miles of light rail for a cost of over 1 billion that will only multiply the traffic problems and the liberals have a gall to say roads are too expensive to build.
