So, unlike the allegations in the press, neither JoePa nor the football program covered up years of sexual assaults by Sandusky. Nor is there any evidence that JoePa covered things up for the benefit of the football program. Reading the report, the university officials completely botched this, and I believe should be liable. But Paterno did his part - reporting an account that was given to him in rather vague terms to the authorities for investigation and action.
Having been in large organizations, I can tell you that when a person is investigated, the investigators do not come back to the informants telling them what they have found out as it could taint their testimony. Investigations are kept confidential.
