I agree with you, although in the case of the McDonald's lady, I saw a documentary about it years ago; the lid came off while she was still at the window. The coffee was hot enough to melt her polyester pants, and she had third degree burns. (they showed pictures) When she sued, all she asked for was something like $19,000.00, to cover the medical bills. The millions she got was due to a jury deciding McDonald's could afford a few million for "pain and suffering." I think a step in the right direction would be to limit what juries can come up with for "pain and suffering."
