One of the highlights of my life is when I "almost" belonged to a union! It went like this: Just out of high school, I went to work for a company in Gabbs, NV. We were required to belong to the Operating Engineers Union, hq in San Francisco. I should state here that this occured in 1951-52.
The Shop Steward came around every month to collect dues, but you were allowed to send your dues, by money order, then show him the stub, and he would check your name off as paid. So I would buy a money order, make it out to my self, put the unions name on the stub, then I would show it to the steward, and I was home free. It worked for over a year, then I joined the service and left!!!
