I agree that the players from the Negro Leagues like Josh Gibson & Satchel Paige should get consideration in any discussion of the greatest ballplayers ever. And there is also the fact that several players have contributed to a team's success with their defensive skills. A player like Roberto Clemente (who happens to be my all time favorite player) comes to mind. How many triples did he turn into doubles just because the batter respected his arm? While it is true that you can't compare players from different eras due to things like expansion, night games, the designated hitter, and relief pitching it is still a fun exercise to try to choose the all time greats.
