Good column, Dr. Sowell. I believe everyone in this life, big or small, has their 'defining moment', it is the moment of decision when all the chips are down where, no matter what course of action you take, it's GOING TO COST YOU. You are the focal point; it all comes down to you; and you determine the outcome of the situation. This moment of decision sets your course for the remainder of your life (and quite possibly into eternity). It defines who you are, and what you are, and there is no changing, or going back from it. John Roberts had his moment of decision last Thursday morning. Interestingly, Washington DC plunged into darkness shortly thereafter. Roberts' decision is written in the hall of gutlessness and shame.
