According to Yahoo! Finance figures, Ford has not $12 billion in debt but more like $100 billion, and a market cap of only $36 billion. If everything goes right, it may be impressive indeed, but if anything doesn't work out, the results will not be pretty.
I have never seen a balance sheet showing shareholder equity as a negative $18 billion characterized as "super strong." I'd give anything to know what "Deferred Long Term Assets Charges" are, shown on the balance sheet as an asset of $14 billion.
The stock ended yesterday at $9.60. Advancing to $20 is hardly a grand slam, especially with these kinds of figures in their statements.
Buying now seems like a courageous move to me.
