I generally like Dr. Sowell. Even when I cannot completely agree with him(in these cases it is far more likely that he is right than that I am), I find him logical and articulate. In this piece I have only one issue. Does he really believe that no one in America puts every effort to provide for themselves and simply falls short? What if it had taken him three months longer to find a job when he was "hungry"? What if he had been evicted for non-payment? Does he truly belive that every person who accepts help with groceries(whether from the government or some other source) spends their money on drugs, alcohol, expensive shoes or electronic gadgets? I would like to think he is smarter than that.
