I agree with all you said : ) Here's a progressive argument for a fair tax / flat tax: Giving people money is almost NEVER the best way to help a person, but that is the only way you can help a person via progressive taxation. With Cap-and-Prioritize we can now say we have a better way to help people via government. So let's tax people equally (as a percentage of income or purchases, not both) and then we achieve true equality under the law, and all progressiveness gets expressed on spending side via competitive spending where results matter and promises cannot be made, and people can be cut off when they are abusing it.
