We go over and above 1-9 requirments and E-Verify all potential employees to be sure they are legal to employ. Several weeks ago as we were headed out of town with our crew for a construction project and we ended up 2 folks short. My foreman (Mexican, legal) and I went to the local day labor site. We interviewed 40 potential employees, the 4 that were legal (non-hispanic) were not interested in out of town work. None of the 36 potential employees that wanted to travel had docss that would pass E-verify, many had docs that would work with I-9. By virtue of not enforcing the federal laws on the books we are encouraging illegal behavior.
