I agree with magnetar. When the fundamental underlying principals are life, liberty and protection of the ownership of property given to everyone you have freedom for all individuals. You cannot define or specify everything without creating a conflict for someone else. When free people agree to pass laws they consider to be in the common good of the people, you have a republic. When you have 51% of the people telling 49% of the people how to live, work and what they should believe you have a democracy. When you have government telling all the people how to live, where to live and what to believe, you have socialism, monarchism, dictators, whatever. It ain't free.
