Both organizations have been bought off by the government, notwithstanding the AMA's recent "switch". The AMA has a monopoly in a numbers game. That is, the AMA gets to sell the code numbers that doctors use to be paid. The AMA changes them a couple of times a year, so doctors have to cough up more money...estimated 70 million a year. Less than 15% of practicing physicians are members. We call the AMA the Association of American Asshats.
