We shoul also insist on an "everyone plays" rule whereby Federal Workers/Consgressmen/Senators/POTUS/SCOTUS have to ALL participate in whatever is foisted on the American public: No separate retirement fund, benefits, etc. All prior promises to be rescinded, just as our SS benefits will be rescinded due to financial insolvency. If they have the same benefits as we do, they are much more likely to find the courage to restore financial solvency.
