The "use" of wildlife, wild lands, water, and space, not to mention the concomitant ethnic cleansing was something more on the order of run amok libertarianism on its logical course. To be realistic, the theme of the day was nation building and the mission was subjugation of "the commons" before some other power moved in. The lands were "owned", i.e., occupied and claimed by the natives, which mattered not to the libertarian spirit of conquest and
personal profiteering. The native owners had muddled along for well over ten thousand years until the dregs of an over-populated world spilled over and showed them how good Christians do it.
