Actually, Great Britain hasn't lasted a thousand years, only just over three hundred with the union of the crowns in 1707. Before that, the nations that make up Great Britain, Scotland, England, and Wales (and later Northern Ireland), were not linked as governments. England, however, has been around a thousand years. Scotland, in various forms, even longer.
