You didn't come right out and say it, but it was implicit in your article: All cultures are not equal; some are better than others. I lived inTurkey for four years and, although Turks take care of what is in their immediate vicinity (their homes, their balconies, and stoops), they are oblivious to the filth in the streets and in their bodies of water, most notably the Bosphorus, which is a cesspool. I also experienced filth in the Greek Islands and the filthiest place I've ever been is Cairo. The restrooms at the Cairo International Airport are disgraceful, and the filth just moves out from there and into the city. The northern European culture is pretty darn good--and clean.
