Some even want to give up the decisions on end of life care to the bean counters. If we do this, we are lost. We have to be comfortable discussing these issues with our patients and helping them come to decisions that reflect their wishes. It has been my experience that most patients and families will do the right thing when given all the facts. Medical decisions belong with the doctor, the patient, and the family and no one else. It's never too expensive to do the right thing. Never.
