In a recent Detroit Free Press article written by Cecil Angel, he described various block grant funds available for home repairs. The Senior Emergency Home repair program funded by Community Develpment Block Grants provides 500 or so seniors up to $12,000 for home repairs. Under the city's Minor Home Repair program, one can receive up to $25,000 to address health and safety issues in a home. In some neighborhoods, one can receive up to $75,000 to fix up a home. This is in a city where median home prices are about $63,000. Is this crazy or what! No wonder we have to print money so fast and run up the deficit.
