Unfortunately, even in small cities -- for instance, Springfield IL, pop. just over 100K -- these antics abound . . . maybe because it's the state capital. The latest is an effort -- backed by the city government -- to spend millions making downtown Springfield (all 8 square blocks of it) more "liveable", cutting-out traffic lanes (a la Bloomberg in NYC) to make bicycle lanes, ostensibly because "urban professionals want to ride their bicycles to work". I'm starting to believe that any sort of government entity simply attracts people who no longer believe they provide "services" -- nooo!, they believe it's their mission to "improve" everyone else according to some template that has no connection to reality. Ultimately, nowhere is safe fr
