You're mixing up your definitions. Socialism is a bureaucratic state, where the party owns the means of production and regulates every part of everyone's life. Communism is supposed to arise spontaneously from Socialism, because after all, bureaucrats are the most selfless of all beings, and naturally want their jobs to vanish, and the apparatus of the state to wither away. Neither of these things is remotely similar to the United Order. 1st because it was voluntary, and 2nd because it was communitarian, but not state-based. It's the communism of the family, which only works voluntarily so long as nobody's lazy...and they were, which is why it failed. Just like the Pilgrims.
