Supposedly, seat belt laws were going to bring down health costs due to fewer people needing long term care, rehab, etc. We can see how well that worked. I agree, the government getting their sticky fingers out of the insurance business would have been far better. As a skydiver, I know full well the riders that can get added into insurance policies. If I can be disqualified from coverage if injury is sustained from free-fall parachuting, then so can drivers who were determined to be not wearing belts. Too simple a solution for the bureaucracy, I suppose.
