Keep thinking along these lines. I never accepted Rand's views on philanthropy because I knew, first hand, that they were horribly incorrect. Several members of my family (including me) survived some very hard times thanks to the charity of kind people. Now that everyone in my family is successful here in the US, we all attempt to continue the tradition of lovingly giving to those less fortunate than ourselves. Government programs are impersonal and useless to givers while holding the needy in poverty. Personal charity. thoughtfully applied, really can help others and return a substantial spiritual/emotional benefit to the donor.
