Has anyone but me noticed that when the government tries to "help" by subsidizing something for us, the costs always go up? I bought a solar hot-water heater. Got a "deal" at about $4,000, marked down from nearly double that. But, I was to get government tax rebates and other assistance to make it even less expensive. I doubt that the system is worth what I paid for it - even after the subsidies.
When I was a senior in college, National Defense loans for students were a new thing. In an academically solid private college, I was paying about $900 - $1,000 per year for tuition, room and board. Yes, there were more expensive colleges then - and also cheaper ones. I worked summers, and most of the time I was on campus - and left school owing
