Except the very affluent areas (NoVA) are highly Democrat. Louden and Fairfax county aren't exactly conservative havens. Virginia also benefits from the east side of DC being the worst, and Arlington/Louden/Alexandria's proximity to the mall. And these "Technology Professionals" are mostly younger, more left-leaning anyway.
You really have 2 completely different states. If you draw a line west from Fredericksburg, you'll have one very Democrat state with high cost of living and high concentration of technology professionals, and one very conservative state with a medium cost of living and a lot of corporate-level professionals (specifically in Richmond.)
