Reagan's oratory was inspiring -- as a professional actor, he knew how to speak his lines. But it was the ideas that informed his oratory, not the oratory itself, that resonated. And it was clear that he deeply believed in what he said. What Obama doesn't understand is that oratory is no substitute for sound principles. Bad ideas are bad ideas no matter how well they are delivered from a podium. With Obama, oratory amounts to little more than a confidence game -- he is utterly cynical and devoid of sincerity.
