Paul goes on to say that he dies everyday. What I think that he means here is that baptism is done in vain without Jesus Christ's resurection. And to be baptised is to be reborn with a new life. The baptism is important for the dead as it leads to life. What I do not think that it means is that we should baptise dead people. How can that be possible without free will?
