RE: Medicaid for well to do families. Concur that we need tight controls on who gets their medical care paid by taxpayers if we are to be fiscally responsible.
What is the general opinion on this blog of the well to do family that has a seriously ill child that needs round the clock medical attention - medical equipment like a ventilator to stay alive, tube feeding, and nurses to continually suction trach and lungs. Options: let the kid die, let the family spend every cent they have until they are poor enough to qualify for medicaid, step in with medicaid assist so the family can provide for their other children. Force them to buy insurance to cover this pre-existing condition so costs are borne by insurance? What do you think ?
