I sometimes wonder if my children, the oldest of which is 11, will ever have the opportunity to see someone who is actually presidential in that office again. There is nothing presidential about the current occupant and he's never done anything that has made me say "that's my representative." So let me see if I understand your position, Valerie. 1) The debate has been scheduled for several months. 2) The President decided two weeks or so ago he needed to give a speech about the job situation in America. 3) Unemployment has been above 9% for nearly his entire presidency. 4) The speech was "so important" that he needed to...go on vacation...travel through the midwest on a "listening tour"...play golf...all before giving the speech. 5) A speech before a joint session of congress is reserved for extraordinary events and/or state of the union speeches 6) Suddenly this "job plan speech" is an extraordinary event requiring a joint session of congress.
