President Hoover was a huge interventionist that made worse a Fed created crisis. The free market, had it been permitted to function, would never have resulted in a crash to begin with.

Not a "hugh" interventionist, a HUGE one. he spent like a drunken sailor (FDR actually ran against Hoover's irresponsible spending). He passed all sorts of new labor legislation and passed Smoot-Hawley, the disastrous protectionism law.

The myth that Hoover was a laissez faire guy has been completely debunked.
