Mr DeHaven and Mr Schuyler both overlook or attempt to obfuscate several facts in their arguments for privatization: First, both attempt to gloss over the effect the massive RHBF payments required starting in 2006 to the pre-payment schedule for retirement benefits has had on postal 'profits'. They WERE profitable until that point, even under severe restriction as to how much profit they were allowed to make. Second, other countries postal services charge MORE for letter delivery than does the US system, even though in-country distances are much less and costs lower. Third, both Congress and postal management have allowed pressure from special interest to reduce viable options for cost containment such as Saturday delivery.
