Daniel you are of course correct that most of the rich pay taxes at the capital gains rate but in the case of Hollywood deductions also play a big part (pardon the pun). Those big screen tvs you see on Cribs are write offs business expenses necessary to keep them abreast of the latest happeneing in the entertainment industry. Their entire wardrobe is a write off regardless if ever worn on the red carpet. Food bills once again written off as diet is necessary to attaining certain roles. Until recently all those luxurious gift baskets were not counted as income. The list goes on. Hollywood doesn't mind taxes because they don't pay them Jon Lovitt needs a new accountant.

Many years ago, before it became associated with foreign intervention, neo-conservatism was simply a term for former liberals who migrated to the right. It was said that they had been “mugged by reality.”

We may need a new term, perhaps “Holly-tarians,” for folks in the entertainment industry who have begun to realize the downside of excessive government. I’ve already favorably cited Clint Eastwood for his pro-flat tax views and dismissed Arnold Schwarzenegger on national TV as a de facto statist, but there are other actors who deserve some attention.

I don’t know whether Jon Lovitz is a budding Hollywood...
